Cockerel Cottage, sleeps 2, Somerset
There is step-free access to the cottage, all of which is at a single level. It consists of an open plan kitchen and sitting room, with a double bedroom and en-suite wetroom. The floors are all solid light oak, except in the wetroom where there is high grade non-slip Altro flooring. All windows and external doors are double-glazed hardwood. Internal doors are waxed light oak. There is free gas-powered central heating and fibre optic Wi-Fi throughout. Towels, crisply laundered bed linen, soap powder, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets are provided without charge. In addition, a welcome pack of fresh bread, butter, milk, coffee beans, tea, sugar, eggs, cheese and a selection of our own apple juice, cider, jams and chutneys is provided on arrival.
Open Plan Kitchen / Sitting Room
External access is through a wide stable door. The fitted kitchen is wheelchair friendly with built-in under counter oven, fridge, separate freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and storage cupboards. At counter level is a butler’s sink with easy turn lever mixer tap, glass induction hob, microwave, toaster and kettle.
A full range of pots, pans and crockery is provided. This includes bone china tea cups and saucers, an electric coffee grinder with glass cafetiere and hand cut crystal wine glasses and tumblers.
In the sitting area there is a white shabby chic dining table with 2 matching dining chairs, a two seater leather sofa, and a single leather tub chair. Also provided are an adjustable wall-mounted 40” flat screen freeview TV & DVD player, and an adjustable flame effect electric fire, which can be run throughout the year for cosy nights in for two.
The front patio, outside the kitchen / sitting room, is ideal for a quiet drink at the end of a hard afternoon sightseeing. It overlooks the croquet lawn where all guests are welcome to try their hand. For the novice, Robin is usually available for a free lesson or two. Beyond the croquet lawn are five acres of enclosed parkland, often home to a visiting flock of Poll Dorset sheep or herd of beef cattle.
Bedroom and ensuite wetroom
The double bedroom contains a built-in wardrobe with Yale laptop wide safe. The light oak double bed has a firm ortho mattress. A soft mattress topper is available on request. Pillows are available in natural down or fibre fill. There is a wall mounted 32 inch flat screen TV with Freeview. The bedroom features large double glazed French windows which lead out to a sandstone paved south facing patio equipped with bistro table and chairs. This overlooks a small private lawn and flower bed which adjoins one of the apple orchards which is home to our friendly hens and, during the day, to Poppy the micro-pig. It provides an ideal spot for a secluded early morning coffee and croissant.
The newly fitted ensuite wetroom is wheelchair friendly and benefits from state of the art Altro non-slip flooring. It contains a high grade Vado thermostatic shower with fixed overhead unit, five function hand unit and grab rails. In addition, there is a free-standing easy- riser padded shower chair with back and arms. The wetroom includes a chair accessible lavatory with the option for a loo frame to be fitted on request at no charge. The washbasin benefits from an easy-turn lever mixer tap and additional wheelchair height shaving mirror.
